I wish I could lay claim to a secret website strategy but this approach is simply one that works in today's world. Sites like CNN.com and the Huffington Post are 100% blogs because they just simply work well. People want new content every time they hit a site, thus the massive success of things like Facebook where its users generate virtually all the content and it is updated 1000s of times per minute.
